The Quincy Chamber of Commerce sponsors community events to enhance the quality of life and to foster economic growth throughout our community. The Quincy Chamber of Commerce coordinates two events in October; The Scarecrow Contest and the Safe Trick or Treat. The Scarecrow Contest is a two part contest with the businesses being the first component of the contest. Businesses have the options to; create a scarecrow, provide a home for a scarecrow from the community, or both. The winner of the business scarecrow contest provides the prize to the winner of the community contest. Winners are judged by the Newcomers Club. Scarecrows are in place for the Safe Trick or Treat. Quincy Merchants provide candy and a safe environment for children to “Trick or Treat” in the downtown Quincy business district.

The Quincy Chamber of Commerce sponsors two Community Events in December. The Main Street Sparkle is on the first Friday evening in December. This event is filled with winter magic. Santa arrives at the Quincy Courthouse in a wagon to make the dreams of the children come true. The giant Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn lights up the night at seven o’clock. Then, the sparkling light parade adds to the magic of the evening. The Downtown Quincy shops are sparkling. Music provided by local artists further adds to the festivities of the evening. Dress warm, even Jack Frost pays a visit to this winter event!  The following Friday evening is the Citizen of the Year and the Business of the Year Awards. This special night is also known as the Wassail Bowl. This unique event takes place inside the historic Quincy Courthouse. This night is a surreal mixture of past, present and future. It is a night to be remembered. Nominations are accepted from the Chamber Membership and nominees are voted on by the Board of Directors. Award plaques are then presented by the president of the Chamber of Commerce to the award winners. Celebrate with our secret Wassail recipe!

The Cinco de Mayo Celebration is in May. A Mexican dinner and margaritas at the Vets Hall create the atmosphere for the Chambers best fundraiser.

The Fathers Day Fly-In was brought back by popular demand. It is a great way to spend some quality time for Dad’s and kids on Fathers Day! This grand event is held at the Gansner Airfield in Quincy, California. The Quincy Firemen are there early cooking a delicious breakfast. There are so many different types of planes to explore. For the adventurous, discount plane rides are available. Maybe you will win a prize in the all day raffle. The Model A Club is there for a car show. There is even barbeque for lunch!

In addition to sponsoring Community Events the Chamber of Commerce acts as a non-profit umbrella to two local groups; The Quincy Newcomers Club and The Quincy Merchants Group. For more information call 283-0188.
